Day 2: BIO One-on-One Partnering™ at J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference

Back to overview page

HSE•AG attended the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) One-on-One Partnering™ at the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco, California.

BIO is the world’s largest trade association representing biotechnology companies, academic institutions, state biotechnology centers and related organizations across the United States and in more than 30 other nations,” BIO.

BIO is helping to organize and schedule meetings during the J.P. Morgan Healthcare (JPM) Conference. Their partnering system helps you to identify potential partners and manage some of the meetings during the JPM week. As soon as you are in the partnering system, you can search for potential partners and schedule meetings in BIO’s meeting space at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis. You can set up these meetings for 30 or 60 minutes; in a way, it’s like a kind of speed dating for companies.

Our first One-on-One meeting at the start of a very wet day in San Francisco was with a US/Asian company that runs service laboratories which generate a huge amount of data. Using a specific platform, this company enables people to host their genome online for further use.

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) was an important topic for many of the other companies we met. As HSE•AG has proven expertise in the field of NGS, the discussions were extremely fruitful and rewarding.

Many companies also reiterated that automating manual workflows is still a bottleneck when it comes to the scalability of their business.

Overall, it was a successful day with many valuable new contacts that will expand our network in the fields of life science and diagnostics.

However, at the end of the day it was still raining heavily. Rain in California is definitely a good thing. Today’s Los Angeles newspaper quoted officials saying that if the wet conditions extend into the spring, 2018 could prove a turning point for the epic dry spell.
