Transforming Human Genetics Through Innovation

Back to overview page

We look forward to attending the European Human Genetics Conference (ESHG) 2024 in Berlin, Germany from 1–4 June. This important scientific and professional event promises to be a hub for learning and discussion, touching upon the latest advancements and challenges in the field of human genetics.

Role of design of experiment and key performance indicators in human genetics

In today’s rapidly evolving landscape, there is a growing trend of applying advanced computational methods in human genetics. This has resulted in development of state-of-the-art algorithms rooted in machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI).

Design of experiments (DoE) model building with efficient analysis methods and concurrent estimation of influence factors is a powerful method, with a number of advantages over a “one variable at a time” approach. Implementation of DoE also allows problem insights and optimization of processes.

Key performance indicators (KPIs) and performance monitoring are critical factors in laboratory settings that measure performance, guide strategic decisions, and ensure efficiency and effectiveness.

DoE and KPIs have great potential for use in imaging solutions for cell therapy and drug discovery. For example, DoE can be used to determine which factors affect the gene-editing process for a novel therapeutic, leading to better understanding of complex biological processes. Other areas of expertise are, for example, machine vision-based cell tracking and labeling methods. These can help to estimate meta-data such as cell-lifetime, cell-division rates, etc., and can provide a myriad of information about genetic effects in genetically modified cells. This approach could help to achieve better strategies for the manufacture of cellular therapeutics.

We are pioneers in automation of life science and diagnostics workflows

Our deep understanding of medical and biological applications enables the analysis of biological workflows in terms of chemistry, consumables, equipment, and software. We develop according to ISO 14385 covering product ideation, development, industrialization, lifecycle management, and assembly and testing with a focus on mechanics, optics, electronics and software and algorithms.

Our expertise covers statistics, ML/AI, signal processing, computer vision and more

State-of-the-art algorithms are the cornerstone of processes such as DoE, establishing production KPIs, and sampling statistics.

We have a deep understanding of statistics and algorithmic areas including:

  • Statistical tests (t-tests, ANOVA, etc.)
  • DoE (Design of Experiments)
  • Applied time series analysis (stochastic models like AR, MA, ARIMA, Kalman filtering, even beyond linear state-space equations, de-trending, e.g., Holt-Winters methods)
  • Data mining
  • Computer vision algorithms
  • Signal and image processing algorithms and beyond
