We are excited to announce that the eviDense UV Photometer, integrated with Biomek i-Series Automated Workstations from Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, has won the prestigious 2026 New Product Award (NPA) from the Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS). This recognition highlights its innovative approach to automated nucleic acid quantification.
Together with the eviFluor Duo Fluorometer, these newly introduced modules set a new benchmark in preanalytics. By integrating UV absorbance- and fluorescence-based quantification directly on the liquid handler deck, the eviDense UV Photometer and the eviFluor Duo Fluorometer transform preanalytics from a fragmented, manual process into a seamless, automated workflow.

In the accompanying SLAS New Matter Podcast, Konstantin Lutze, Chief Technology Officer at HSE·AG, and Ian Shoemaker, Staff Application Scientist at Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, share insights into their partnership and how this fully integrated solution contributes to increasing lab efficiency.
Overcome the Limitations of Traditional Quantification Methods
Accurate nucleic acid quantification is critical in preanalytics. Contaminated DNA samples or inconsistent DNA concentrations can lead to unreliable results and costly rework. Traditionally performed using benchtop spectrophotometers or microplate readers, conventional approaches introduce inefficiencies and risks:
- Manual pipetting increases hands-on time and risk of operator-induced errors
- Manual data transfer adds workload burden and risk of transcription errors
- Limited integration into automated workflows requires dedicated bench space and creates bottlenecks in medium- to high-throughput applications
- Pathlength and surface-related variability in microplate readers can reduce measurement consistency and accuracy
Integrated Automation: A New Standard in Preanalytics
The eviDense UV and eviFluor Duo modules address these challenges by integrating UV absorbance and fluorescence-based quantification directly into automated liquid handling workflows. This enables:
- Precision and reproducibility: Automation eliminates manual pipetting variability and ensures consistent sample handling
- Walk-away processing: Fully automated workflows enable hands-free processing of up to 192 samples (eviDense UV) and of up to 288 samples (eviFluor Duo)
- Data integrity: Automated digital data capture ensures traceability and supports data-driven decisions
- Space-saving integration: Both modules require only a single SBS deck position
- Sample retention (eviDense UV): Non-destructive measurement allows full sample recovery for downstream applications
