Embrace the Future of Electronic Pipetting

Back to overview page

Precise pipetting is crucial for the success of lab procedures and ensures reliable and reproducible results. If small errors occur in the volumes of liquids being measured or mixed, they can result in significant variations in the results.

We have developed an innovative electronic pipetting device for high-precision dispensing of volumes from 0.5 µL to 1000 µL. The wide volume range delivered by the adjustable pipetting device means the need for multiple pipettes is set to become a thing of the past.

Drawbacks of conventional pipettors

Accurate pipetting is a prerequisite for daily lab work. However, conventional pipettes have a limited dispensing range, which means multiple pipettes are needed to cover several volume ranges. This increases time and effort and can lead to user error if the wrong pipette or volume is chosen.

Piezoelectric micropump replaces piston-driven air displacement

We addressed the challenges of dispensing by developing an innovative electronic pipetting device. This patented device includes a compact, low-power piezoelectric micropump to generate positive and negative pressure in liquid handling applications.

Piezoelectric micropumps bring several advantages to the table, including pulsation-free flow, rapid response times of a few microseconds, and silent operation. Furthermore, with a small size of approximately 30–40 mm, they can be easily integrated into a handheld pipettor housing.

High-precision fluid control

The air flow in the pipettor is regulated through the action of a 3/3-way piezoelectric valve and valve driver that enable seamless switching between positive, negative, and zero flow. By altering the oscillation amplitude, the piezoelectric pump driver enables variation of the total flow rate over a wide range.

When the valve to the vacuum line opens, the determined volume is aspirated by continuous flow rate measurement. Once the target volume is reached, the valve closes and the pump stops. During dispensing, the valve to the pressure line opens. Flow-rate monitoring allows for multi-dispenses, while metering is regulated using very-sensitive flow sensors.

One pipette for all volumes from 0.5 µL to 1000 µL

Advancements in micropump technology are enabling the development of innovative products. We were able to eliminate the need for a plunger and other mechanical parts from our electronic pipetting device. With a wide volume range and ultra-smooth flow, you can cover all your liquid handling applications with just one pipetting device.
